PROTOPRESBYTER - REV JOSEPH PALIOURAS
BIOGRAPHY
Father Joseph Paliouras was born in Trikala, Greece in 1961. He began his musical studies at a young age and graduated in Athens, with a degree in Byzantine and European Music. He holds a degree in Theology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from the Higher Ecclesiastical Academy of Athens and holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Reading.
In 1986 he moved to London where he still lives. He was a member of the Greek Educational Mission in Great Britain and worked as a Teacher of Music and Religions in Secondary Education and at the Hellenic High School in London. He is the founder of the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain in London and was also its Director and Choreographer for 30 years 1986-2016. Fr. Joseph Paliouras was ordained a priest on Christmas Eve 1988 and currently serves at The Church of the Twelve Apostles in Brookmans Park, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.
For thirty-two years he presents the weekly radio program "From the Hymnology of our Church" on the Greek Radio of London LGR. He also presents the weekly show "Window in Blue" and is a contributor to the show "The voice of the church". On the Greek television of London HELLENIC TV, Father Joseph presents the weekly programs "Tomorrow is Sunday" and "Seize Education".
He has also released various CDs containing Religious Hymns and Songs such as: "Christmas Hymns", "The Bridegroom's Sequences", "The Holy Passions", "Double Feast", "Christmas and New Year Songs", "The Land of the Invincible" , "The flowers of the Aegean", "The Time of repentance" and recently the "Christmas Carols".
The Hellenic Music Centre

The Hellenic Music Center was founded in 1990 by the Elder Joseph Paliouras, with the aim of serving Greek Traditional and Byzantine Music in the diaspora of the great city of London and Great Britain in general, in the boundaries of our Holy and Secret Archdiocese.
In this context, the Hellenic Center, always in collaboration with the School of Byzantine Music, which was founded in 1986 and is still run by Elder Joseph Paliouras, has organized Byzantine Music and Traditional Music Courses, Traditional Music Orchestra, Traditional and Byzantine choirs. Hundreds of events-concerts in London and in the most largest cities of Great Britain.
At the same time he has made dozens of music publications, mainly with themes from the Hymnography of our Church, referring to the biggest religious holidays, but also Folk Songs and Carols, from all regions of Hellenism.
He has been a weekly contributor and presenter for more than three decades of TV and Radio broadcasts in the local media of London such as the Hellenic TV of London (Hellenic TV) and the Hellenic Radio of London (LGR).
